Victrola Enhances Sonos-Compatible Turntables with New Wireless Capabilities

If you’re the proud owner of one of Victrola’s high-end, Sonos-ready turntables from recent years, you’ll be delighted to know that your tech-savvy record player is about to become even more versatile. Victrola has announced that all of its "Works with Sonos" vinyl turntables will now support Bluetooth, Universal Plug and Play (UPnP), and hi-fi Roon streaming, thanks to a software update.

Expanded Streaming Options

The update will significantly boost the streaming capabilities of the Stream Carbon, Pearl, and Onyx turntables. Meanwhile, Victrola’s ultra-premium Sapphire player, which already supports these standards, has already received the update. The company assures that the update will install automatically, and the new options will appear in the section of the app where you previously only saw the option to pick a default Sonos speaker.

A Welcome Update

While the new capabilities are a welcome addition for anyone who spent between $600 to $1,500 on a hi-tech vinyl player, it’s surprising that the premium gear launched without these features despite having the necessary hardware. Victrola’s decision to add these capabilities now may be a response to Sonos’ tumultuous year, which included a disastrous app update, multiple rounds of layoffs, and the departure of its CEO and chief product officer.
