Following the removal of Biden-era AI policy commitments from its website, Anthropic has submitted proposals to the White House for a national AI policy, aiming to “better prepare America to capture the economic benefits” of AI, just a day later.

The company’s recommendations include retaining the AI Safety Institute established during the Biden Administration, tasking NIST with developing national security assessments for powerful AI models, and creating a government team to identify potential security vulnerabilities in AI systems.

Additionally, Anthropic advocates for stricter AI chip export controls, specifically limiting the sale of Nvidia H20 chips to China, citing national security concerns. The company also suggests that the U.S. should set a national goal of building an additional 50 gigawatts of power for the AI industry by 2027 to support AI data centers.

Many of Anthropic’s policy proposals closely resemble those outlined in former President Biden’s AI Executive Order, which was repealed by Trump in January. Trump’s allies had criticized the order’s reporting requirements as overly burdensome.
