Introduction to Visual Intelligence

What began as an exclusive Apple Intelligence feature for the Camera Control-enabled iPhone 16 line is now set to be available on older iPhone models soon. It was previously known that the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max would receive Visual Intelligence at some point, and thanks to a report from 9to5Mac, it has been confirmed that this feature will be one of several options that can be assigned to the Action Button in the second iOS 18.4 beta. This suggests that the feature is likely to be included in the final release of the update.

Functionality of Visual Intelligence

Visual Intelligence utilizes AI models from Google and OpenAI to provide information about objects captured by the iPhone’s camera, allowing users to find related websites. Additionally, this feature can be used to add event details from a flyer to the calendar and identify dog breeds. Until recently, summoning Visual Intelligence required a long-press of Camera Control on an iPhone 16. However, with the release of the iPhone 16e, Apple introduced the option to access this feature via an Action Button as well. Given that the iPhone 15 Pro’s A17 Pro chip offers sufficient RAM to support other Apple Intelligence features, it is reasonable that its Action Button will also be compatible with Visual Intelligence.

iOS 18.4 Update and New Features

The iOS 18.4 update, currently in beta, is expected to launch in early April. Alongside expanding the compatibility of Visual Intelligence to more iPhone models, this update will also introduce a new recipe section in Apple News called Apple News+ Food. Previously, Bloomberg reported that iOS 18.4 was supposed to include the launch of Apple’s upgraded Siri, which would have the capability to see and interact with apps. However, this feature is now scheduled for release at a later date.
