Samsung is preparing to expand its line of smart wearable rings by introducing a new model equipped with the capability to measure human body and object temperatures.

Following the debut of its first wearable smart ring, the Galaxy Ring, last year, the company is now looking to further expand its offerings. According to a report by 91Mobiles, Samsung has filed a patent with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) for a ring that incorporates a temperature-sensing feature.

As reported, the patent suggests that the ring features a specialized sensor on its inner side, which faces the user’s finger and detects temperatures. Additionally, the ring includes a motion sensor, such as an accelerometer, to track finger movements and determine what it is measuring.

When the ring is brought near another person or object, the sensor is activated, allowing it to differentiate between skin temperature and the temperature of an external object. This feature is designed to prevent the ring from confusing body temperature with that of an external object, thereby providing accurate readings. The ring can determine whether it is measuring the user’s skin or the surface of an object, making it a convenient tool.

Furthermore, if the ring detects unusual temperature readings, it can alert the user through various means, such as vibrations, sounds, or lights. The company is also exploring the possibility of using the ring to track body temperature and predict menstrual cycles. Although the project is currently under patent, it remains to be seen whether the proposed sensors will be integrated into the upcoming Galaxy Ring.
