Google has introduced a Gemini-powered upgrade to its Sheets platform, designed to enable users to analyze data more efficiently and convert spreadsheets into charts using artificial intelligence.
This update allows users to leverage Gemini’s capabilities to extract insights from their data, including identifying correlations, trends, and outliers. Additionally, users can now generate advanced visualizations, such as heatmaps, which can be inserted as static images within their spreadsheets.
Although the company announced this update last month, Google confirmed on Friday that it is now available to all Workspace business users.
To utilize this feature, users need to click the Gemini icon located on the top right-hand side of their spreadsheet. From there, they can pose questions such as “predict my net income for the next quarter based on historical data” or “create a simple heatmap of support cases by category and device.”

Other example queries include a marketing manager requesting Gemini to “Provide insights on my top 3 performing channels by conversion rate” or a financial analyst asking Gemini to “Identify any anomalies in inventory levels for Product X.”
According to Google, Gemini achieves this by generating and executing Python code, then analyzing the results to perform complex, multi-layered analysis. For less complex requests, Gemini may still provide answers using formulas instead of Python code.
The company emphasizes that data should be in a consistent format, with clear headers and no missing values, to ensure accurate results.
