Following Samsung’s teaser of a thinner Galaxy S25 at the Unpacked event last month, it appears that the launch is imminent. As spring arrives, Samsung is set to unveil the Galaxy S25 Edge, expected to be the company’s thinnest flagship device. According to the Seoul Economic Daily, the Galaxy S25 Edge will be launched on April 16.

The event is likely to be live-streamed, allowing a global audience to witness the debut of the ultra-slim phone and learn about its official release date. Initially, Samsung plans to make 40,000 units of the Galaxy S25 Edge available for purchase, suggesting a cautious approach to gauge demand. This launch will not be a massive rollout like some of Samsung’s other flagship models.

The Galaxy S25 Edge is anticipated to boast an “ultra-slim” design, measuring approximately 6.4mm, compared to the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s 8.2mm. The device will utilize ceramic materials and be priced lower than the Galaxy S25 Ultra, but higher than the Galaxy S25+. Samsung reportedly plans to prioritize processor and camera performance on the Edge, sacrificing features like the telephoto camera to maintain a streamlined design. The balance between performance and the rumored 3,900 mAh battery will be interesting to see, given that it’s smaller than the batteries in the current Galaxy S25 flagships.

Initially, we thought the Galaxy S25 Edge was a nod to Samsung’s past, when Galaxy flagships featured a sloped edge. However, considering the rushed nature of this launch, it seems more likely that this is a strategic move by Samsung to claim the title of the first manufacturer to release a thin flagship phone, ahead of Apple’s iPhone 17 Air launch later this year.

Although we’ve caught a glimpse of the Galaxy S25 Edge from a distance, we have not had the opportunity to handle the device. Based on what we’ve seen, it appears that this phone is primarily designed to showcase Samsung’s capabilities. We will have to wait and see if the company’s boasts translate into sales.
