OpenAI continues to expand its AI-powered chatbot platform, ChatGPT, with new features and capabilities. One of the key features is the memory function, which allows users to save preferences, making chats more tailored to their needs. Additionally, ChatGPT has an upgraded voice mode, enabling real-time interaction, and a store, known as the GPT Store, where users can access AI-powered applications and services.

A common question that arises is: What is the cost of using ChatGPT? Unfortunately, it’s not a straightforward answer, as OpenAI offers a range of plans, including both free and paid options, catering to diverse customers, from individuals to nonprofits, small and medium-sized businesses, educational institutions, and large enterprises.

To help navigate the various ChatGPT subscription options, we have compiled a comprehensive guide on ChatGPT pricing, which will be regularly updated as new plans are introduced.

ChatGPT Free

In the past, the free version of ChatGPT had limitations. However, with the introduction of new capabilities and generative AI models, the free version now offers more features. Users of ChatGPT free can access OpenAI’s GPT-4o mini model, responses enhanced with web content, and the GPT Store. They can also upload files and photos and ask questions about these uploads. Furthermore, free users have limited access to advanced features, such as Advanced Voice mode, GPT-4o, and o3-mini.

Although the free plan has its benefits, there are some drawbacks. For instance, there are daily capacity limits on the GPT-4o model and file uploads, depending on demand. Additionally, free users miss out on more advanced features, which are discussed in greater detail below.

ChatGPT Plus

For individual users seeking a more advanced ChatGPT experience, there is ChatGPT Plus, which costs $20 per month. This plan offers higher capacity than the free version, allowing users to send 80 messages to GPT-4o every three hours, and unlimited messages to GPT4o-mini.

ChatGPT Plus subscribers also gain access to OpenAI’s reasoning models, including o1-preview, o1-mini, and o3-mini. Moreover, they can utilize multimodal features, such as Advanced Voice mode with video and screen sharing, although they may encounter daily limits.

Users of ChatGPT Plus have limited access to newer tools, including OpenAI’s deep research agent and Sora’s video generation.

In addition, ChatGPT Plus subscribers can leverage an upgraded data analysis feature, powered by GPT-4o, which can create interactive charts and tables from datasets. Users can upload files directly from Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, or their devices for analysis.

ChatGPT Pro

For those who require near-unlimited access to OpenAI’s products and want to try new features first, there is ChatGPT Pro, which costs $200 per month. This plan provides unlimited access to reasoning models, GPT-4o, and Advanced Voice mode, as well as 120 deep research queries per month and access to o1 pro mode.

ChatGPT Pro users also gain access to OpenAI’s web-browsing agent, Operator, and more video generations with Sora. OpenAI tends to release new features to ChatGPT Pro users first, prioritizing their access to existing features during times of high demand.

ChatGPT Team

For small businesses or organizations needing multiple ChatGPT licenses and collaborative features, ChatGPT Team is available, costing $30 per user per month or $25 per user per month billed annually for up to 149 users. This plan provides a dedicated workspace, admin tools, and access to OpenAI’s latest models and tools for analyzing and extracting information from files.

ChatGPT Enterprise

Large organizations requiring more than 149 ChatGPT licenses can opt for ChatGPT Enterprise. Although OpenAI does not publicly disclose the price, it is reportedly around $60 per user per month, with a minimum of 150 users and a 12-month contract. This plan offers “enterprise-grade” privacy and data analysis capabilities, enhanced performance, and customization options, including a dedicated workspace and admin console.

ChatGPT Enterprise customers also receive priority access to models, lines to OpenAI expertise, and a dedicated account team. They are eligible for Business Associate Agreements with OpenAI, which are necessary for companies handling private health information.

ChatGPT Edu

ChatGPT Edu is a version of ChatGPT designed for universities, students, faculty, staff, researchers, and campus operations teams. Although pricing has not been publicly disclosed, ChatGPT Edu is comparable to ChatGPT Enterprise, with the addition of support for SCIM, an open protocol for simplifying cloud identity and access management.

OpenAI for Nonprofits

OpenAI for Nonprofits offers discounts for eligible nonprofit organizations. Nonprofits can access ChatGPT Team at a discounted rate of $20 per user per month, while larger nonprofits can receive a 50% discount on ChatGPT Enterprise, which works out to about $30 per user.

However, the eligibility requirements are strict, and OpenAI is not currently accepting applications from academic, medical, religious, or governmental institutions.
