The power of Grayskull has finally been eclipsed, as a new live-action Masters of the Universe film is officially in the works. After years of rumors and false starts, with various studios, stars, and directors attached to the project, a first-look image has been released, confirming that the movie is indeed happening – and it looks exactly as fans had hoped.
A sneak peek is available above and in full below, showcasing He-Man, played by Nicholas Galitzine, wielding the iconic Sword of Power. The sword’s design is faithful to the original toys and animated series, but with a grittier, more worn appearance, which is fitting.

As previously announced, Masters of the Universe is being directed by Travis Knight, who has already proven his ability to bring 1980s toys to life with the underappreciated Bumblebee. The film boasts an impressive cast, including:
- Nicholas Galitzine (“He-Man”)
- Camila Mendes (“Teela”)
- Morena Baccarin (“The Sorceress”)
- James Purefoy (“King Randor”)
- Alison Brie (“Evil-Lyn”)
- Charlotte Riley (“Queen Marlena”)
- Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson (“Malcolm/Fisto”)
- Jared Leto (“Skeletor”)
- Idris Elba (“Duncan/Man-at-Arms”)
- Sam C. Wilson (“Trap Jaw”)
- Hafthor Bjornsson (“Goat Man”)
- Kojo Attah (“Tri-Klops”)
- Sasheer Zamata (“Suzie”)
- John Xue Zhang (“Ram-Man”)
- Christian Vunipola (“Hussein”)
This cast is not only impressive but also somewhat surprising. The prospect of Idris Elba as Man-at-Arms is exciting, and one can’t help but wonder if Jared Leto is fully immersing himself in the role of Skeletor. Other cast members, such as Baccarin, Jóhannesson, and Purefoy, seem like perfect fits for their respective roles.
After several false starts, Knight joined the project in early 2024, and Galitzine was added to the cast in May. Although it’s taken nearly a year, the film has finally taken shape. The movie is currently scheduled to hit theaters on June 5, 2026.
