The Wheel of Time is gearing up for its third season, with the first three episodes set to premiere on March 13 on Prime Video. The season will consist of eight episodes, with a weekly release schedule through April 17. For those who need a refresher on the previous season, io9 has got you covered.
To start, here are some helpful Wheel of Time guides that provide background information on the series: The io9 Guide to Wheel of Time and Everything to Remember About Wheel of Time Ahead of Season 2. These guides delve into the world of Robert Jordan’s book series and the main characters introduced in season one, including the reveal that Rand al’Thor is the Dragon Reborn, destined to face off against the Dark One in a “Last Battle” that will determine the fate of the world. It’s worth noting that you don’t necessarily need to read the books to enjoy the series, but the show’s creators do include Easter eggs for fans and explore the lore for new viewers.
Under the guidance of showrunner Rafe Judkins, the Prime Video adaptation has been successful in balancing the needs of both longtime fans and newcomers.
What happened in The Wheel of Time season two?

After the events of season one, the Two Rivers friends were dispersed across different lands. Rand, fearing his connection to the One Power might harm his loved ones, told Moiraine to spread the word that he didn’t survive the fight at the end of season one. He’s now in Cairhien, working at an asylum and spending his nights with an alluring innkeeper named Selene. However, Selene turns out to be Lanfear, another Forsaken, who’s still carrying a torch for the last Dragon after 3,000 years.
At the White Tower, Nynaeve and Egwene are in training to become Aes Sedai. Both are known to be powerful channelers, but Nynaeve struggles to control her abilities. Despite this, she endures the test required of Novices to become an Accepted. The two, along with their new friend Elayne Trakand, embark on a rescue mission to find Perrin, who’s been captured by the Seanchan. However, they’re kidnapped by Liandrin and presented to the Seanchan, who enslave women connected to the One Power and use them as “damane,” instruments of war.

Meanwhile, Perrin’s quest to find the Horn of Valere leads him to encounter Aviendha, a fierce Aiel warrior, who pledges to help him. Mat, who’s been imprisoned in the White Tower, befriends Min, a fellow prisoner with the gift of foresight, who warns him that he’ll eventually kill Rand. Lan and Moiraine spend much of the season on shaky ground after Ishamael severed Moiraine’s connection to the One Power. However, Rand eventually restores her abilities, and the two reunite.
What happened at the end of The Wheel of Time season two?

The season finale brings all the main characters together in Falme, where they join forces to fight against Ishamael. In a dramatic turn of events, Egwene murders her tormentor, Renna, and reclaims her agency and powers. Mat blows the Horn of Valere, summoning dead heroes to aid in the battle against the Seanchan. Rand’s status as the Dragon Reborn is finally revealed to the world. The season ends with Lanfear meeting another Forsaken, Moghedien, who reveals that all the Forsaken are now free, setting the stage for the impending Last Battle.
What can we expect from The Wheel of Time season three?

While Prime Video hasn’t announced a release schedule beyond season three, the upcoming season is expected to be intense. The official description hints at Moiraine and Rand embarking on a perilous journey to the Aiel Waste to uncover the true fate of the Dragon Reborn, all while facing the threat of the Forsaken. Book readers know that season three will adapt events from The Shadow Rising and The Fires of Heaven, the fourth and fifth books in Jordan’s series. New characters will be introduced, including Elaida a’Roihan, played by Shohreh Aghdashloo, an Aes Sedai who advises Elayne’s mother, Queen Morgase Trakand.
