ChatGPT Achieves New Milestone

ChatGPT has reached a significant milestone, surpassing 400 million weekly active users. OpenAI COO Brad Lightcap expressed his gratitude, stating, “We feel very fortunate to serve 5 percent of the world every week,” in a post on X, highlighting the remarkable growth of the AI assistant’s user base. This figure represents a substantial increase, doubling the weekly active user count reported by the company in August 2024, which was already a significant jump from the November 2023 figures.

The latest achievement comes amid a period of intense competition in the AI landscape, with the emergence of new rival platforms like DeepSeek, which sparked concerns about the potential disruption of the current leading AI tools. However, OpenAI is poised to further enhance its ChatGPT offerings by simplifying the user experience, eliminating the need for users to select a specific reasoning model. The company also plans to make its advanced GPT-4.5 and GPT-5 models available in the chat and API clients soon. Notably, the GPT-5 model will be accessible to OpenAI’s free users, which is likely to contribute to the continued expansion of ChatGPT’s audience base in the coming months.
