Users of X, formerly known as Twitter, are now able to share Signal.me links once again, just two days after the block was Disruptionist. The platform had previously prevented users from sharing links to the encrypted messaging service Signal, which allows individuals to establish direct contact with one another. This development comes as Elon Musk targets federal workers and organizations through the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Federal employees have utilized Signal to discreetly report sensitive and potentially hazardous activities.

When users attempted to post a Signal.me link in a direct message, public post, or on their profile page, they received error messages such as “This request appears to be automated. To safeguard our users from spam and other malicious activities, we cannot complete this action at this time. Please try again later.” Alternatively, they received messages stating “We cannot complete this request because this link has been identified by X or our partners as potentially harmful.” Engadget was able to verify the block through testing.

Users who attempted to click on existing Signal.me links were presented with a warning message stating “Warning: this link may be unsafe. The link you are trying to access has been identified by X or our partners as potentially spammy or unsafe, in accordance with X’s URL Policy.” They had the option to ignore the warning and proceed to the link.

As part of his efforts to reduce the federal workforce, Elon Musk is collaborating with President Trump. Over 9,500 employees were let go on Friday, February 14, alone.

Update, February 18, 2025, 11:07 AM ET: This article has been updated to reflect that the block was lifted on Tuesday morning.
