Magic: The Gathering has gained a reputation for its crossover events, which serve as a means to attract new enthusiasts while revitalizing existing ones. This strategy, aimed at maintaining the game’s popularity, also includes a forthcoming Magic film. Following recent collaborations with Lord of the Rings and Marvel, Magic is now tapping into another devoted fan base: Final Fantasy.
After a brief teaser last fall, the full details of Magic: The Gathering — Final Fantasy have been revealed, ahead of its release on June 13.
A video shared today by Wizards of the Coast showcases the upcoming release:
According to a press release from Wizards of the Coast, the set boasts “the largest collection of Final Fantasy artwork ever in a single game, drawing from across the franchise.” Magic artists have reimagined Final Fantasy moments in their unique style, while classic Final Fantasy art pieces are also featured on the cards. Fans can expect to see their favorite Final Fantasy stories, characters, and moments depicted on over 100 legendary creature cards throughout the release.
The release will also include special features, such as “Saga Creatures,” which allow players to “call the summons for aid in battle,” as well as double-faced cards highlighting iconic Final Fantasy characters, mini-games, story moments, and more. Wizards of the Coast has also teased “more to come,” including Secret Lair drops and a special holiday release.
Magic: The Gathering — Final Fantasy is now available for pre-order in stores and online, ahead of its June 13 release. Here’s a sneak peek at some of the cards that are part of the new crossover.
