Upcoming Price Hike for Acer Laptops in the US

Acer has announced that it will be increasing the prices of its laptops in the US by 10 percent starting in March. This decision was disclosed by Acer’s chief executive and chairman, Jason Chen, in an interview with The Telegraph. The price increase is a direct result of President Trump’s tariffs imposed on China.

Chen’s statement provides a clear example of the cause-and-effect relationship between Trump’s import taxes and the subsequent price hike. “We will have to adjust the end-user price to reflect the tariff,” Chen said. “We think 10 percent probably will be the default price increase because of the import tax. It’s very straightforward.” The price of Acer’s most expensive laptop, the 17-inch Acer Predator Triton gaming laptop, could increase to $4,178 from $3,799.

President Trump introduced a 10 percent tariff on China this month, a country that accounts for approximately 80 percent of laptop imports to the US. Initially, Trump claimed that the tariffs would not affect consumer prices, but he recently admitted that they could have an impact.

It remains to be seen whether all Acer laptops will experience a price increase next month or only those that have been recently imported. Chen also mentioned that the company is exploring the possibility of relocating some of its manufacturing operations to other countries, including the US.
