According to Deadline, Warner Bros. has enlisted the services of Potsy Ponciroli, known for Old Henry, to craft a script for the movie. The original film’s creator, Steven Spielberg, will be producing through Amblin Entertainment, alongside Christopher Columbus and executive producer Lauren Shuler Donner. While the plot details remain under wraps, along with any potential return of the original cast members, this development marks a significant step forward for fans who have been eagerly awaiting the return of the iconic misfits. Notably, this comes after some cast members denied any sequel plans just last year. However, January rumors hinted at Warner Bros. initiating work on a sequel, which now appears to be taking shape.

The original Goonies film told the story of a group of young outcasts on a quest for an ancient pirate’s treasure, aiming to save their families’ homes from foreclosure.
