Adobe Spreads Its Wings: Yet Another Firefly AI Model Edition

Adobe continues to capitalize on the success of its early Firefly AI models by launching a new standalone subscription service that offers access to its AI image, vector, and video generating models. This will mark Adobe’s most significant attempt to turn its AI Firefly models into a tangible product.

As part of its goal to monetize the Firefly AI capabilities, Adobe is also unveiling a redesigned webpage, firefly.adobe.com, allowing users to utilize Adobe’s AI models. The new Firefly AI video model is being released in public beta on the Firefly website and in the Premiere Pro Beta app.

The company’s new Firefly Standard plan costs $9.99 per month, providing unlimited access to Adobe’s AI image and vector generating features, as well as the new AI video model. The plan includes 2,000 credits, allowing users to create 20 five-second AI videos. This package also allows users to link their Firefly plans to their Creative Cloud accounts for unlimited AI image and vector generation in Photoshop, Express or other Adobe apps.

The Pro plan will be priced at $29.99 per month and will give users the ability to generate 70 five-second AI videos per month. Adobe is also considering developing a “Premium” tier that will allow users to create 500 AI videos per month, according to Alexandru Costin, Adobe’s VP of Generative AI.

The firm utilized a licensed video dataset, devoid of brand logos and explicit content, to train Adobe’s Firefly AI models. This allowed the company to create AI tools that are both commercially safe and IP-friendly, as stated by Costin.

In an effort to help clients generate unique and practical visual effects, Adobe has redesigningailed its webpage andphoto-based AI video tools to stand out in the marketplace. Before this, these services were readily available within Adobe’s existing subscriptions with no extra cost.

Firefly’s Standard plan will compete against models from Runway, OpenAI and Google DeepMind. Firefly’s AI video model can translate text into a five-second, AI-generated video. Users can customize controls like camera angles, movement, and aspect ratio.

To compete effectively, Firefly’s video features aim to assist clients iterate and improve their projects. For instance, its Generative Extend feature expands a five-second video and interruptions by a few seconds.

Notably, Adobe faces pushback from long-time professional users of its application. These users fear that the rise of generative AI tools is threatening their livelihoods due to the potential of AI tools to automate their job specs. As a result, Adobe must navigate the challenges posed by the proliferation of AI in creative industries.

Adobe’s aim is to propel itself as a leader in the rapidly changing creative tech landscape.
