Grokipedia, an encyclopedia project backed by Elon Musk’s xAI and powered by the Grok assistant, experienced a brief launch on Monday before encountering technical issues. At the time of writing, the website is operational, featuring over 885,000 articles, as indicated by a counter on its homepage.
Musk has been a vocal critic of Wikipedia, previously speaking out against the platform. He describes Grokipedia as “a necessary step towards the xAI goal of understanding the Universe.” Musk and his allies have long argued that Wikipedia is biased, a claim that Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales has dismissed as factually incorrect.
According to Musk, the launch of Grokipedia was delayed to allow for further work in removing propaganda from the platform. Notably, some Grokipedia articles bear a strong resemblance to their Wikipedia counterparts, although they lack in-line links to sources. These entries are accompanied by a disclaimer stating that “the content is adapted from Wikipedia, licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 License.”
In some instances, social media users have identified Grokipedia entries that seem to reflect Musk’s personal viewpoints. For example, the entry for “university” was shared by Bluesky user Jeremy Cohen.

Another example can be seen in the Grokipedia entry for Elon Musk, which was captured by Bluesky user Miles Lee.
