Introduction to Summerween
It appears that holidays are arriving earlier than expected, much like an undead creature that refuses to die. This phenomenon is not limited to Christmas, which is often celebrated in July by some enthusiasts. However, Summerween has been gaining momentum since early June and is expected to reach its peak with attractions like Midsummer Scream and Universal Horror Unleashed.
Retailers Embracing Summerween
Retailers such as Michaels have already released their Halloween collections, allowing customers to decorate their homes before the festive season begins. Michaels’ new "sweet and spooky" line features a pink aesthetic, including items like a "You Goth This" mug, a pink pony club cowgirl ghostie, and affirmations with a hint of darkness. This collection embodies the spirit of Mean Girls meets Monster High, bringing a unique blend of styles to the Halloween season.

Bath & Body Works has also released its Halloween scarecare routine, featuring a new summer-inspired scent called "I Scream Float." This scent is reminiscent of a Coke ice cream float at a horror movie drive-in and is part of the company’s extensive Halloween line, which includes fan-favorite fragrances like "Vampire Blood" and "Wicked Vanilla Woods." The collection includes a range of products, from shower gels to candles, but notably excludes sunscreen.

The new drop from Bath & Body Works also features decor items, including a cauldron soap dispenser, haunted projector scent diffusers, and adorable accessories. Meanwhile, Spirit Halloween locations are starting to open, and Midsummer Scream, a summer Halloween convention, is scheduled to take place from August 15-17 in Long Beach, CA. The event will feature creatives from Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights, as well as horror genre stars like John Carpenter and Cassandra "Elvira" Peterson.
Universal Horror Unleashed
In Las Vegas, Universal Studios is preparing to open a new horror destination called Universal Horror Unleashed at AREA15. This attraction will feature rotating horror franchise haunted houses and experiences, including houses based on The Exorcist, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and the Universal Monsters. The Universal Monsters house is particularly exciting, as it will feature all the characters in the monster lineup, including the elusive Creature from the Black Lagoon.
Planning Your Summerween Visit
You can plan your visit to Universal Horror Unleashed starting August 14, with a Chicago location also in the works. The attraction promises to be a horror hub that will be open year-round, providing a unique experience for fans of the genre.
