Update on The Batman Part II

It has been a while since we’ve heard any significant updates on The Batman Part II. The constant refrain has been that various individuals are waiting for a script to be delivered. Now, with the enthusiasm of a student submitting a late homework assignment, Matt Reeves has provided some evidence: a script for The Batman Part II is finally in existence.

Reeves recently took to social media to confirm that the latest version of his sequel to the 2022 DC film is ready to be sent to James Gunn. He shared a blurry black and white photo of himself and co-writer Mattson Tomlin sitting in front of a copy of the script.

Although this sneak peek doesn’t reveal much beyond the fact that the script exists, it’s still a significant development. If you squint hard enough, you can barely make out that the movie is still currently titled The Batman Part II. The fact that Reeves felt the need to share this with his followers highlights the prolonged back-and-forth between interviews, as fans eagerly await any update on the film.

James Gunn has been trying to manage expectations, stating that Batman Part II is not canceled and that fans should be patient. "I’ll also say Batman Part II is not canceled. That’s the other thing I hear all the time—that Batman Part II is canceled. It’s not canceled," Gunn told Rolling Stone. "We don’t have a script. Matt’s slow. Let him take his time. Let him do what he’s doing. God, people are mean. Let him do his thing, man."

It appears that Reeves has finally delivered, and now fans will likely shift their attention to asking when filming will begin, followed by when the trailer will be released. The Batman Part II is currently scheduled to hit theaters on October 1, 2027.
