It’s that time again – Samsung has announced its upcoming Unpacked event, scheduled to take place on July 9. This highly anticipated event is expected to unveil the latest Galaxy Z Flip and Z Fold foldable Android phones.
Unlike previous events, which were held in Paris and Seoul, this year’s Unpacked event will be hosted in Brooklyn, New York, starting at 10:00 a.m. ET / 7:00 a.m. PT. Gizmodo will provide live coverage of the event, and for those who cannot attend, Samsung will also offer a live stream on its YouTube channel and website.

Samsung has shared a teaser image and video, along with a statement hinting at the integration of more advanced AI capabilities in its upcoming devices. The statement reads: “With AI leading the way, Galaxy devices are evolving from reactionary smartphones to anticipatory smart companions – transforming how we communicate, create, and connect.” Although the details are scarce, it seems to suggest a more proactive approach to AI, potentially taking actions on behalf of the user, similar to what Apple promised with its contextually aware, AI-powered Siri, but failed to deliver.
Samsung’s doing another Unpacked event on July 9. Expect foldables. New Z Flip and Z Foldable. The teaser says “Ultra Unfolds.”

Ultra Versions of the Z Flip and Z Fold?
Despite Samsung’s discretion, numerous leaks have already revealed significant details about the upcoming foldables. The teaser video ends with the phrase “ultra unfolds,” likely indicating the introduction of “Ultra” branding, similar to the company’s main Galaxy S-series phones. This suggests that the new devices will feature the best foldable screens, hinges, cameras, performance, and battery life.
Samsung also posted a statement on its U.S. newsroom page earlier this month, hinting at the demand for an “Ultra-experience” that goes beyond a simple list of upgraded features in a smaller and more portable form factor. The statement highlights the importance of industry-leading hardware, cutting-edge performance, and seamless AI integration optimized for the foldable format.
For years, Samsung has listened to users asking for bigger screens, better cameras and new ways to connect and create. The demand is clear — an Ultra-experience that goes beyond a simple list of upgraded features in a smaller and more portable form factor.
…
With industry-leading hardware, cutting-edge performance and seamless AI integration optimized for the foldable format, it’s what users have come to expect from Galaxy Ultra.
And when it unfolds, it transforms– into a more immersive entertainment hub, a spacious workspace, or a multitasking powerhouse, now enhanced by powerful Galaxy AI features designed specifically for the foldable format.
It is uncertain whether Samsung will skip the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Z Fold 7 in favor of the Galaxy Z Flip Ultra and Z Fold Ultra or announce a more premium-tier Galaxy Z Ultra foldable alongside the annual refreshes. However, leaked images suggest that the new foldables will be thinner than their predecessors, with the cover screen of the Z Flip potentially expanding edge-to-edge, similar to Motorola’s new Razr flip-style foldables.
Additionally, leaked CAD files indicate that the new Z Fold could be as thin as 9mm when closed and 4.54mm when unfolded, making it comparable in thickness to regular non-folding phones when closed. The upcoming event will provide more information, so stay tuned for further updates.
