Although LinkedIn users appear to have widely accepted AI technology, there is one specific area where adoption has been lower than anticipated, according to CEO Ryan Roslansky: AI-generated suggestions for refining LinkedIn posts.
In a recent statement, Roslansky expressed surprise at the relatively low popularity of this feature, saying, to Bloomberg, “It’s not as popular as I thought it would be, quite frankly.” He attributed this to the higher stakes involved in posting on LinkedIn, as it serves as a virtual resume, and the potential backlash users may face if their posts are perceived as being generated by AI.
Roslansky further emphasized the importance of authenticity on LinkedIn, noting that the consequences of posting AI-generated content can be more severe than on other social media platforms. He stated, “If you’re getting called out on X or TikTok, that’s one thing, but when you’re getting called out on LinkedIn, it really impacts your ability to create economic opportunity for yourself.”
Despite the limited uptake of AI-generated post suggestions, LinkedIn has seen significant growth in AI-related activities. Over the past year, the platform has experienced a six-fold increase in job postings requiring AI skills, and a twenty-fold increase in users adding AI skills to their profiles.
Roslansky also shared his personal experience with AI, revealing that he uses the technology to refine his communication with his supervisor, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. He admitted, “Every time, before I send him an email, I hit the Copilot button to make sure that I sound Satya-smart,” demonstrating the practical applications of AI in professional settings.
