The concerns about social media platforms becoming echo chambers have taken an unexpected turn, thanks to a glitch on Threads. Instead of users being exposed to diverse viewpoints, many are seeing the same post repeated over and over, making it seem like everyone is saying the same thing.

A bug affecting some Threads users on both desktop and mobile devices is causing a single user’s post to be duplicated multiple times, giving the impression that every user on the feed is posting the same content.

One Threads user joked, “Siri, unsubscribe me from 2025,” as seen in a screenshot shared by social media expert Alexa Heinrich. However, the humor was lost when it appeared that every other user on Heinrich’s feed was making the same joke, all pleading with Apple’s struggling AI to rescue them from the constant stream of negative news. The joke itself was a reference to the current year being overwhelming, with many using the term “cheugy” to describe it.

While Meta’s apps have had their share of recent mishaps, this particular issue on Threads is more amusing than harmful. In contrast, some users were unknowingly sharing their private conversations with Meta AI on a public feed last week, revealing sensitive information about medical issues, contact details, and more.

The cause of the bug is still unknown, but Meta Communications Director Andy Stone responded to a post about the issue from app researcher Jane Manchun Wong.

Stone acknowledged the problem, saying, “Whoops, well that clearly shouldn’t have happened! We’re working on getting it fixed now.”

Wong replied, echoing Stone’s sentiment, “Whoops, well that clearly shouldn’t have happened! We’re working on getting it fixed now,” though it seems there was a miscommunication in the response, as Wong was quoting Stone’s own words back to him.
