Changes to Patreon Fees

After August 4, creators setting up a new paid membership page on Patreon will be required to pay a 10 percent fee on their earnings, as per the platform’s new standard plan. Currently, Patreon offers Pro and Premium plans, with fees of 8 percent and 12 percent of creators’ income, respectively. However, the platform is merging these two plans into a single option, resulting in a price increase for new creators. It is worth noting that Patreon will continue to honor the lower Pro rate for creators who have locked it in by August 4.

Impact on Existing Creators

The change will also have an effect on creators who are currently operating under the Premium plan, which has a 12 percent fee. Once the change is implemented, these creators will be shifted to a custom "Pro + merch" plan with an 11 percent fee. If they choose to remove the merch option, their fee will be reduced to 8 percent.

Additional Updates

Patreon has also announced an increase in the amount of free storage provided for creators using Patreon Video. Previously, the platform offered storage for up to 100 hours of video across the account’s lifetime, with additional storage available for a fee. However, Patreon will now provide 100 hours of video per month for free, starting later this summer. This update comes shortly after the platform introduced new tools, including a built-in livestreaming feature called Live Video. Patreon began testing Live Video among select creators this spring, with plans for a wider rollout this summer.
