According to a new post from Mark Zuckerberg, Meta is currently testing a feature on Threads that allows users to conceal spoilers. This feature enables users to obscure text or images, making them only visible when tapped or clicked.

To utilize this feature in its current test form, users must highlight the desired text or tap on the image and then select “Mark spoiler” to conceal it. Additionally, within the Threads app, a swirling particle animation is displayed over text and images before disappearing when tapped.

Meta’s introduction of this feature aims to facilitate discussions about ongoing shows without inadvertently revealing spoilers. The platform is home to a growing community of users who utilize Threads to discuss media, and its algorithmic feed can sometimes result in spoilers being displayed. Unlike Reddit, few social media platforms offer a built-in feature to obscure spoilers, forcing users to rely on general moderation tools like muting specific words or phrases to avoid unwanted revelations.

The new spoiler feature is not yet widely available but represents the latest in a series of changes Meta has been experimenting with on Threads over the past few months. One significant update is the addition of a dedicated DM inbox. Previously, messaging someone on Threads would redirect users to Instagram DMs, but Meta is now testing a separate Threads DM inbox in Hong Kong, Thailand, and Argentina.
