Nothing Phone 3 is set to officially launch in the US market, with the device available for purchase on Amazon and directly from the company, as reported by TechCrunch. Nothing’s CEO, Carl Pei, has been hinting at this development since April, and now it’s officially confirmed.
Canadian customers will also have access to the phone, thanks to a partnership between Nothing and Best Buy, which will sell the device in the region. The phone will be available for sale next month.
Since its inception in 2020, the company has produced eight handsets, but only the Phone 2 has been made available for general sale in the US. Other models were only accessible through a beta program, which lacked after-sales support. This development is welcome news for North American customers looking for alternatives to Samsung and Apple.
According to Carl Pei, “The US smartphone market is currently dominated by two major players, but there’s a significant demand for something different.” He believes that “this is the right product and the right moment to scale up our presence in North America,” TechCrunch reports.
However, there’s a downside: the phone will only be available for purchase from Amazon and Nothing, with no option to buy from carriers at a discounted price. Nevertheless, it will support 4G and 5G networks with AT&T and T-Mobile. Although there’s no explicit support for Verizon, the Phone 2 worked well with Verizon’s network, and it’s likely that the Phone 3 will follow suit.
The official US price has not been announced yet. Carl Pei recently stated that the phone would cost £800 in England at launch, which translates to around $1,080 in US dollars. This makes it the most expensive handset the company has ever released, as Nothing has primarily focused on mid-range devices. Pei attributes the higher cost to “premium materials, significant performance upgrades, and software enhancements.”
Although the exact specs are not available yet, a recent leak suggests that the phone will feature a flagship Snapdragon chipset from Qualcomm and a new camera system with a triple-lens module on the rear. The battery is also reported to be larger, potentially exceeding the 5,000 mAh mark. The Nothing Phone 2 had a 4,700 mAh battery.
Additionally, the company is releasing over-ear headphones that will be available for purchase by US and Canadian residents.
