Introduction to Mixed Reality

Virtual and augmented reality are still relatively new and largely unexplored territories, with numerous innovative ideas waiting to be developed. A startup called Dopple Works, founded by Etsy’s co-founder and former CEO Robert Kalin, is reportedly working on a novel device known as Loop, which could potentially make a significant impact in the mixed reality space. According to , this secrecy-shrouded business is on the verge of unveiling its latest creation.

Device Specifications and Features

Dopple Works has submitted a filing to the Federal Communications Commission, which, although partially confidential, reveals that Loop will be a battery-powered device utilizing both WiFi and Bluetooth networks. Furthermore, Lowpass has discovered a patent that refers to Loop as a "dedicated hand-held spatial computing device." The patent application includes images depicting a camera, speaker, and tracking sensor, which could capture environmental details, along with a screen for viewing mixed reality content.

Speculation and Potential Applications

At this point, there is insufficient information to speculate about Loop’s intended purpose. However, the images from the government filings do evoke intriguing mental images of a future where individuals might use mixed reality magnifying glasses, reminiscent of Sherlock Holmes, to navigate and interact with their surroundings.
