Intel’s CEO, Lip-Bu Tan, is exploring options to refocus the semiconductor giant on its core business operations.

According to a report by Reuters, Intel is considering the sale of its networking and edge unit, which generates chips for telecommunications equipment and accounted for $5.8 billion in revenue in 2024. This potential sale is part of Tan’s efforts to divest non-essential business divisions and concentrate on key areas.

Reuters noted that Intel has begun discussions with potential buyers, although a formal sales process has not been initiated.

The possible sale of the networking and edge unit aligns with Tan’s previously stated goals. In March, he announced plans to spin off non-core assets during the Intel Vision conference, emphasizing the company’s renewed focus on its core business units, including PC and data center chips.

When approached for comment, Intel declined to provide a statement.
