A Minecraft Movie is already a massive hit, and now it’s getting an upgrade with a sing-along version. This new iteration is expected to propel the movie to even greater heights.
Warner Bros. has announced a “Block Party Edition” of the film, which will allow viewers to “sing (and meme) along” to the movie’s songs, including those performed by Jack Black. This special edition will start screening this weekend, building on the film’s existing popularity among younger audiences, who have already fallen in love with the “Lava Chicken” song. As stated in the press release, “You know the moments. You know the lines. You love the songs! Now it’s time to get loose, laugh out loud and belt out those lyrics like a true diamond-tier fan.”
The release of the sing-along version is likely to push Minecraft past the billion-dollar mark, as it has already grossed $816 million worldwide as of last weekend. This move also allows Warner Bros. to capitalize on the growing trend of sing-along screenings, which has proven successful for films like Wicked last year. Given Jack Black’s singing talents, it’s a smart decision to offer this interactive experience. (Although, it’s unlikely that the studio would attempt this with Sinners, but it could try to keep the momentum going.)
The Minecraft: Block Party Edition will hit theaters this Friday, May 2, in North America and select international markets.
