April 26 marks the celebration of Alien Day, and to commemorate this occasion, FX has released two new videos for Alien: Earth that provide a glimpse into the upcoming series. The teasers hint at the ominous events that will unfold, and although they do not contain actual footage from the show, they convey the eerie atmosphere and scientific horror that fans of the Alien franchise have come to expect.
The first video, titled “Gestation,” depicts the scientific creation of a mysterious entity confined to a crate. A lab terminal on the ship identifies this new species as having genetic material from an unknown source, or rather, multiple sources. The second video, “Crate,” features a narration that reveals Weyland-Yutani’s mission to collect five distinct life forms from the darkest regions of the universe, each representing a unique and deadly species. Series creator Noah Hawley has previously indicated that the show will introduce new Xenomorph variants, and “Crate” offers subtle hints at the origins of these forthcoming creations.
Alien: Earth is set in the year 2120, two years prior to the events of the original Alien film. The story takes place after a Weyland-Yutani ship crashes on Earth, and a team of soldiers uncovers disturbing secrets within the wreckage. As the planet teeters on the brink of disaster, the team must survive the deadly life forms and the company’s own agendas. The cast includes Sydney Chandler, Timothy Olyphant, Babou Ceesay, and Alex Lawther.
