Netflix has introduced a new feature for watching content with subtitles. The psychological thriller You, starting with its fifth season, will offer captions that include only dialogue, in addition to the standard Subtitles for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (SDH/CC), which can be accessed via this link.

For those unfamiliar, SDH/CC subtitles provide a comprehensive viewing experience by including not only dialogue but also audio cues such as [alarm rings], [knock on door], or [Don’t Stop Believing intensifies over the jukebox]. In contrast, Netflix’s new subtitle option focuses solely on dialogue, omitting these non-dialogue audio descriptions.

The new dialogue-only subtitles can be found in Netflix’s language settings, labeled as “English”, whereas the standard SDH/CC captions will continue to be listed as “English (CC)”. According to Netflix, in addition to You season five, this new subtitle type will be available for all upcoming original content in every language that currently supports SDH/CC subtitles.
