The animation industry, in collaboration with ASIFA-Hollywood, has introduced AnimAID, a fundraising initiative that includes an auction at Sotheby’s. This effort aims to support individuals in the industry affected by the Los Angeles wildfires. Major studios such as The Walt Disney Company, Warner Brothers, Sony Pictures Animation, DreamWorks Animation, and LAIKA have donated unique and rare animation art pieces for bidding.

The online auction, which commenced this week, seeks to aid artists and professionals in the animation industry who have been displaced or lost their homes due to the wildfires. As the city of Los Angeles works towards rebuilding, the animation community has come together to provide support. Animation producer Don Hahn (Beauty and The Beast, Howard) discussed the cause on Instagram, stating:

“The Los Angeles fires had a significant impact on the animation community. In response, the animation world has united by donating invaluable artwork to Sotheby’s for a special auction benefiting AnimAID, with all proceeds going directly to the victims of the LA fires.”

The auction features a curated selection of iconic art spanning over 90 years, encompassing both cinema and television. Some of the notable titles represented include Snow White, The Simpsons, Inside Out, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, The Wild Robot, Beauty and the Beast, Avatar, and other beloved franchises.

Hahn emphasized, “Every bid makes a difference, contributing to the rebuilding of homes and lives.”

The exhibition’s bidding is currently underway, showcasing an array of pieces up for auction. These items include film industry artist commissions, animation studio tours, signed posters, and original production drawings and animation cells.
