Samsung is set to unveil its inaugural tri-foldable smartphone, dubbed Galaxy G Fold, as well as a phone with a vertically rolling display, after being granted a US patent for a smartphone featuring a rollable screen.

Recently, the Korean technology giant submitted a patent application that included a design for a vertically expandable rollable display, potentially revolutionizing the future of smartphone design. The US Patent and Trademark Office has now approved the patent.

The patent includes technical drawings illustrating the device’s collapsed state. A credible source, @xleaks7, and the AI platform DomoAI have released the first images of the device, which bears a striking resemblance to the current Galaxy Z Flip 6.

The device boasts a rollable display that can expand vertically, but its integrated roll mechanism makes it thicker than standard Galaxy devices. The screen bezels will be remarkably thin, while the chin at the bottom will be thicker due to the roll mechanism.

Samsung is expected to feature a dual-camera setup with a flash, similar to the one found on the Galaxy Z Flip series. Although the original design does not include physical buttons, the simulation adds a button to the right side, but this detail has not been confirmed and should be considered an illustrative concept.

Aside from this, the patent design does not reveal any significant or notable features. As the device’s design is currently in the patent phase, it will be interesting to see if the company decides to bring it to market.
