Roblox has updated its payment system to introduce regional pricing for in-experience items. This new system automatically adjusts the cost of an item based on the local economy of the buyer, allowing Roblox creators to “better adapt to local market conditions and maximize earnings.” The company believes this change will have a positive impact on the platform’s active community members.

Previously, users from all countries, including those with weaker economic conditions like Vietnam, were charged the same price as users in the US. This resulted in some international users being priced out of the market. With regional pricing, Roblox aims to increase participation from users worldwide, making the platform more accessible and inclusive.

To take advantage of regional pricing, creators must opt-in to the service. The software will not only determine optimal local prices for items but also periodically update costs to reflect changes in the global economy. This approach is similar to that used by companies like Nintendo, which already offers regional pricing in its eShop, allowing users to find better deals on games when accessing the store from different regions.

New to Roblox? The platform allows creators to earn Robux, a virtual currency, by selling in-game items that grant perks and abilities. Although regional pricing currently only applies to certain items, it is expected to expand to include avatar items later this year.

This development follows the recent introduction of Roblox‘s price optimization feature, designed to help creators set the most effective price for their items. According to Roblox, this feature has resulted in a four percent increase in earnings for eligible creators, primarily due to optimized pricing that balances revenue with sales volume.
