Samsung is committed to prioritizing the security and functionality of its Galaxy ecosystem, with a software update distribution system that remains unmatched by other Android partners. However, some devices are nearing the end of their major OS update journey. The list of affected devices is provided below.

One UI 7 Marks the End of the Line for These Devices

Samsung’s primary focus is on ensuring the safety and longevity of its devices, which led to an upgrade in its software update policy with the introduction of the Galaxy S21 series. This policy includes 4 major OS updates and 5 years of security updates.

The company has categorized its Galaxy devices into different segments, each receiving a specific number of major OS updates and security patches. These categories include 3 major OS updates and 4 years of security patches, 4 OS updates and 5 years of security patches for several flagships and mid-tier models, 7 years of OS and security patches for the S24 series or higher, and even 8 years for enterprise models. A significant pattern is followed for software update rollouts across Galaxy smartphones, tablets, and foldables.

In accordance with the device’s category, Samsung provides both major OS updates and relevant security patches. Once a device reaches its deadline, the company stops delivering further updates, including major OS and regular security patch updates.

Similarly, the Android 15-based One UI 7 update will be the last major OS update for certain Galaxy devices. Although these models will no longer receive major OS updates, they will continue to receive regular security patches until their policy ends.
