The forthcoming Toxic Avenger reboot is just around the corner, and with each new glimpse, it’s been a mixed bag of goofy, gross, and a blend of both. The latest promotional clip falls squarely in the latter category, offering a cocktail of humor and intense gore that will likely intensify your aversion to the healthcare system this year.

Visiting a doctor and obtaining the necessary medication to stay healthy, or at least alive, can be a daunting task, even when the doctor has your best interests at heart. This isn’t the case for Winston Gooze (Peter Dinklage), who, after years of working as a janitor, has fallen ill due to [jackhammer noise] and is faced with the prospect of costly medical treatment that he may have to cover out of pocket.

Upon requesting assistance from his boss (Kevin Bacon), Winston is callously disposed of into toxic waste. Miraculously, he survives the ordeal but emerges severely mutated. His immediate priorities are reuniting with his stepson Wade (Jacob Tremblay) and exacting violent revenge against his former employer, as well as anyone else who dares to cross him.

Directed by Macon Blair, the Toxic Avenger serves as a reboot of the 1984 Trom classic. The release has been a long time coming, and our review from 2023 characterized it as stupid yet delightfully vicious. Two years on, it still retains this essence, from the Adult Swim-inspired medical infomercial to the graphic scene where a mutated Winston violently dismembers a man, resulting in a gushing stream of blood. The anticipation for its theatrical release on August 29 is building.
