On Wednesday, Epic Games revealed its acquisition of Loci, a cutting-edge AI platform designed for automatic tagging of 3D assets. This strategic move is expected to streamline the tedious process of tagging and aid in the detection of potential intellectual property (IP) infringements for creators.
By leveraging computer vision models to comprehend 3D content, Loci enables the automatic tagging of 3D assets, thereby facilitating easier search, sharing, and discovery of content. Given the vast number of assets that creators typically need to manage, this new integration is anticipated to be highly beneficial, as manual tagging can be an extremely time-consuming process.
The integration of Loci’s technology will not only alleviate the challenges associated with manual tagging but also facilitate the identification of potential IP violations. Previously, Fortnite encountered issues where numerous players incorporated elements from popular IPs, such as Mario Kart and Shrek, into their creations.
The AI-powered technology will be seamlessly integrated across the Epic ecosystem, including the Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) and Fab, the marketplace for buying and selling digital assets.
The financial details of the acquisition were not publicly disclosed.
