Joelle Pineau, Meta’s Vice President of AI Research, has announced her departure from the company in a Facebook post on Tuesday. After overseeing Meta’s internal AI research lab, FAIR, led by Yann LeCun for over two years, Pineau will be leaving the company in May.

The news of Pineau’s exit comes at a time when Meta is intensifying its AI efforts, with plans to invest $65 billion in AI infrastructure by 2025.

A Meta spokesperson stated to Bloomberg News that the company is currently searching for Pineau’s successor, as there is no immediate replacement. Notably, Meta reportedly restructured its organization last year, placing its AI research unit under the supervision of Chief Product Officer, Chris Cox.

Pineau has expressed her intention to take a break before embarking on a new, as yet unnamed, “adventure.”
