Throughout the complex and tumultuous history of the X-Men, one factor has remained constant: Charles Xavier’s propensity to disrupt the lives of those around him. Inevitably, his actions lead to conflicts and resentment among his peers and loved ones, prompting him to distance himself until his students and surrogate family require his assistance once again. Following his tumultuous interactions with fellow mutants on Earth in recent years, Charles is now poised to extend his unique brand of chaos to the cosmos.

On Friday, Marvel announced that Charles Xavier, along with his frequent ally and lover Lilandra of the Shi’ar Empire, will play pivotal roles in the forthcoming Imperial comic series. For those who may be unfamiliar with recent X-Men storylines, Charles was imprisoned in his own institution after the fall of Krakoa and the defeat of Orchis. He subsequently escaped during the X-Manhunt event, while struggling with a brain tumor that has been causing harm to innocent individuals. The various X-Men teams were divided over whether to apprehend or assist him, but ultimately, Xavier reunited with Lilandra to embark on a journey to space, where they aim to support their daughter Xandra.

The central premise of Imperial, written by Jonathan Hickman and illustrated by Iban Coello and Federico Vicentini, revolves around the sudden and mysterious assassination of several key galactic leaders. Although Marvel has not disclosed the specific individuals affected, Charles Xavier’s tendency to assume leadership roles and instigate chaos could have significant implications for the comic’s cosmic landscape. Given Hickman’s promise that this event will usher in a substantial shift in the hierarchy of cosmic power, Xavier’s involvement could be a pivotal factor. However, it remains to be seen whether the various intergalactic empires will survive the turmoil he unleashes before he potentially returns to Earth.

Further details about the Imperial series will be revealed when it launches on June 4.
