In order to offer greater flexibility to developers with apps available in the UK Play Store, and in response to concerns expressed by the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority, we will be introducing user choice billing in the UK as of March 29th. Initially, this will apply to non-gaming apps, consistent with our approach in other countries. This demonstrates our dedication to actively participating in the Authority’s process.

Although more than 90% of our developers report being “satisfied” or “very satisfied” with Google Play’s billing system, which provides a secure method for purchasing subscriptions and digital goods within apps, we acknowledge that some developers may prefer alternative payment processing options. With this launch, developers will have the ability to offer an additional billing option alongside Google Play’s billing system, allowing users to select their preferred payment method at checkout.

Numerous global developers are already utilizing user choice billing and can now provide this option to their users in the UK as well.
