Personal Data Protection Board Imposes Fines for Inadequate Security Measures
Turkey’s Personal Data Protection Board (KVKK) has fined Amazon’s gaming platform Twitch $58,000 over a data breach that affected 35,274 individuals in the country. The fine was imposed for inadequate security measures and failing to report the breach in a timely manner.
Investigation Launched After 125 GB Data Leak
KVKK launched an investigation after a 125 GB data leak was discovered. The investigation found that Twitch had failed to take adequate security measures beforehand, addressing the issue only after the breach was discovered. The board also stated that risk and threat assessments had been insufficient.
Breakdown of Fines
The KVKK imposed a fine of 1.75 million lira ($58,000) for inadequate security measures and 250,000 lira for failing to report the breach.
