Exposing Meta’s Leadership
For all its wealth and influence, Meta continues to face the triennial phenomenon of a whistleblower revealing the company’s poor leadership. The latest example is "Careless People," a tell-all memoir by former staffer Sarah Wynn-Williams, which dishes out plenty of dirt on the house of Zuckerberg. Despite Meta’s efforts to suppress it, the book has been making waves.
According to Engadget’s Karissa Bell, the book reveals some shocking facts, such as Mark Zuckerberg’s request to be mobbed when he arrived in Asia, and Sheryl Sandberg’s lack of understanding about the challenges of transporting live organs between countries. Additionally, Joel Kaplan, the former George W. Bush staffer and friend of Brett Kavanaugh, is accused of blocking attempts to address Facebook’s role in the Myanmar genocide and is also said to have harassed Wynn-Williams.
What’s surprising is how unsurprising these revelations are, from Zuckerberg’s self-interest to the company’s general indifference to the harm it causes. It’s unlikely that these claims will lead many people to reconsider their relationship with the company and its products.
