Google Updates Find My Device App
An update to Google’s Find My Device app is now available for Android users, featuring a new “People” tab. This tab displays contacts who have shared their location with the user, as well as those with whom the user has shared their location. The update was announced by the company at the beginning of the month as part of the March Pixel Drop and started rolling out this week, as reported by 9to5Google. The new feature allows users to view their approved contacts’ real-time locations on a map, along with a list showing the addresses of their current positions, the distance from the user, and the time since the information was last updated.
Although Google Maps already allowed users to manage location sharing and track trusted contacts, the updated Find My Device app streamlines this information into a more user-friendly format. The People tab enables users to see contacts who have shared their location and those with whom they have shared their own location. Users can also switch between Google accounts and adjust Location Sharing settings at any time using the top-right tab. This update comes nearly a year after Google first launched Find My Device and brings the service more in line with Apple’s Find My app.
