A patent filed by Samsung on January 10, 2022, has been recently approved, enabling the camera to switch between the front and back of a display.
Initially, Samsung Display submitted a patent in 2022, identified as D1066344, which has now been registered with the US Designs. The patent details a unique display featuring a repositionable camera system, allowing cameras to move between the front and back depending on the mode of use.
According to reports, the newly approved patent describes a display device equipped with a dual-position camera mechanism. It showcases one configuration where the camera system is positioned on the front and another where it moves to the back. This camera setup is expected to function for both photography and capturing selfies or video conferencing.

It is expected that this design will be integrated into a foldable or rollable display phone that Samsung may introduce in the future. Notably, the patent document hints at a Samsung phone with a repositionable camera, reminiscent of the Galaxy A80 smartphone launched in 2019.
The figures in the patent illustrate several viewpoints, highlighting the design’s adaptability. However, since the design is currently under patent, it does not guarantee a commercial release. Therefore, it remains to be seen whether the design will come into existence.
