Although the 2025 summer movie season is just around the corner, many film enthusiasts are already looking forward to 2026. The upcoming year promises to be an exciting one, with highly anticipated releases like Superman, Jurassic World, and the Fantastic Four being overshadowed by bigger names like the Avengers, Star Wars, Steven Spielberg, Spider-Man, and Christopher Nolan.

With over a year to go, the 2026 summer movie season has the potential to be unforgettable, but things are still subject to change. Recently, we got our first glimpse of Matt Damon in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, and shortly after, it was announced that Steven Spielberg’s untitled event film would be changing its release date to avoid clashing with Disney’s Avengers: Doomsday and The Mandalorian and Grogu.

Spielberg’s film, starring Josh O’Connor and Emily Blunt, and rumored to be a sci-fi movie, was initially set for release on May 15, 2026, but will now hit theaters on June 12, 2026. As a result, the new film from the Oscar-winning directors of Everything Everywhere All at Once, which was originally scheduled for June 12, has been removed from the schedule, although it is still in production and will receive a new release date soon.

Here are some of the highlights of the 2026 summer movie season so far:

  • Avengers: Doomsday – May 1, 2026
  • The Mandalorian and Grogu – May 22, 2026
  • Untitled Steven Spielberg Sci-Fi Event Movie – June 12, 2026
  • Scary Movie 6 – June 12, 2026
  • Toy Story 5 – June 19, 2026
  • Supergirl: World of Tomorrow – June 26, 2026
  • The Odyssey – July 17, 2026
  • Spider-Man 4 – July 24, 2026

This is just a sample of what’s to come, and several of these films, including Avengers, Spielberg, and Spider-Man, have yet to begin production, so changes are likely in the next year. Additionally, new and exciting projects will undoubtedly be announced, making the 2026 summer movie season even more anticipated. Even with the current list, it’s clear that 2026 has the potential to outshine 2025.

The 2025 summer movie season kicks off on May 2 with the release of Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts. Other notable releases include James Gunn’s Superman, Gareth Edwards’ Jurassic World Rebirth, Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.
