Robust Cybersecurity Framework Ensures Safety of Devotees

A comprehensive strategy has been developed to safeguard Maha Kumbh 2025 from cyberattacks, following the instructions issued by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The strategy includes a robust cybersecurity framework, including hardware and software security, cyber patrolling, and public awareness initiatives.

Cyber Patrolling and Monitoring

At least 150 police personnel, including those from Prayagraj district cyber cell, cybercrime station, and various local police units, are engaged in constant cyber patrolling. This includes monitoring suspicious websites, social media activity, and other cyber frauds. Police officers were trained by technical experts and are working round the clock at the Maha Kumbh helpdesk hotline, 1920, which is operational 24×7.

Addressing Cyber Fraud Complaints

Complaints related to cyber fraud are being addressed by the Prayagraj district cyber cell, where legal action is being taken, and victims are receiving assistance. The National Cyber Help Line number 1930 and NCRP portal (www.cybercrime.gov.in) are also being used to address cyber fraud-related complaints.

Proactive Protection Against Potential Threats

The use of the latest technology and support from cybercrime experts ensures proactive protection against potential threats. So far, 78 suspicious websites have been investigated, with seven fraudulent sites taken down and five cases registered against them. Four individuals, arrested for cybercrime, were found in possession of laptops, mobile phones, and ATM cards.

Public Awareness Campaigns

Public awareness campaigns are being conducted through print and social media, sharing vital information on avoiding digital frauds such as OTP frauds, fake websites, and investment frauds. The aim is to fortify communication networks and protect the event’s digital infrastructure from threats like DDoS attacks, ransomware, and port scanning.

Dedicated Team of Cyber Experts

A dedicated team of cyber experts will operate round the clock, ensuring that any potential threats are dealt with swiftly. Campaigns using short films, jingles, and social media are being used to raise public awareness and prevent cybercrime during the event.

The use of the latest technology and support from cybercrime experts ensures proactive protection against potential threats. The strategy also includes audit of Maha Kumbh websites, hosting servers, and mobile applications by specialised agencies like STQC, MEITY, and IIT-Kanpur.
