Visit the profile of any celebrity on and you may be greeted by a low-quality photo of them. These images are often outdated, blurry, or taken candidly on a smartphone at a public event. However, a group of volunteer photographers has embarked on a mission to improve this, as reported by .

Any media uploaded to Wikipedia must be made freely available for anyone to use, which is a challenge since professional photographers typically want to monetize their work and thus don’t share their photos on the platform.

This is where comes in – a team of amateur photographers who have been attending festivals, award ceremonies, and other events to capture Creative Commons-licensed shots of high-profile attendees. Some celebrities seem more than happy to have a replacement headshot on their Wikipedia page, which is often the first point of reference for people looking to learn about them.

One photographer, Jay Dixit, shared that Succession star Jeremy Strong was more than willing to pose for . Dixit recalled, “His publicist said no, but Jeremy said, ‘Wait, you’re from Wikipedia? For the love of God, please take down . You’d be doing me a service.'”

The Wikimedia Foundation and donations are funding WikiPortraits’ efforts, and you can read more about their mission at .
