X, the platform, experienced significant downtime on Monday, much like the highly unlikely cage fight between Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg that’s never, ever happening<\/a>. According to Down Detector, there was a surge in outage reports from users between approximately 5:30 AM and 6:30 AM ET, followed by two more prolonged spikes indicating more substantial outages later in the morning. The Engadget team was unable to access tweets on X for the most part, except for a few brief moments when the service was operational.<\/p>\n

Elon Musk, the platform’s owner, attributed the issues to a “massive cyberattack against X” allegedly carried out by either a “large, coordinated group and\/or a country”. Although Musk did not provide any evidence to support his claims, experts speaking to NBC News<\/em><\/a> found his assertions to be plausible.<\/p>\n

According to Isik Mater, director of research at NetBlocks, which tracks global internet connectivity, “It’s difficult to be certain, but given the pattern of three observed outages, a denial service attack targeting X’s infrastructure can’t be ruled out. It’s certainly one of the longest X\/Twitter outages in our records.”<\/p>\n

This is not the first instance where Musk has blamed a major attack for X’s technical issues. He made a similar claim last year<\/a> when a livestreamed audio chat with President Donald Trump experienced technical difficulties.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n
