Vin Diesel recently took to Instagram to share some exciting updates about his upcoming projects, and one announcement, in particular, caught our attention: a potential Groot movie from Marvel Studios. The star of the The Fast and the Furious franchise mentioned that “Disney wants their Planet X!”, which he claims is Marvel’s most anticipated movie. He also hinted that the film would follow Groot’s return to his home planet.

Considering Marvel’s tendency to keep upcoming projects under wraps, Diesel’s statement seems quite bold. It’s unlikely that he would casually mention such a significant project on social media without some foundation. Io9 reached out to Marvel for comment, but they did not provide a response. In the absence of official confirmation, let’s delve deeper into the possibility of a Groot-centric movie.

It’s worth noting that Groot has already had his own Marvel project, the delightful I Am Groot series on Disney+. While it may not be a crucial part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it highlights Groot’s immense popularity, which Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has acknowledged in the past.

A story centered around Groot’s home planet doesn’t seem far-fetched, especially if it serves as a starting point for a larger Guardians adventure. We know that Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord will return, and it’s likely that he’ll reunite with his old teammates, including Rocket and Groot. Perhaps the movie could follow Star-Lord’s return to help Groot, which would be an exciting development.

However, it’s essential to consider Vin Diesel’s tendency to stir up attention and tease projects on social media. The Planet X Groot movie could be an idea he’s passionate about, a project mentioned in passing, or an actual concept in development at Marvel. While we can’t say for certain, it appears that Diesel is simply floating the idea to gauge interest.

Beyond the potential Groot project, Diesel discussed various other upcoming projects, including F9, Rock Em Sock Em Robots, Riddick, xXx, and The Last Witch Hunter. His busy schedule may include a return to Marvel Studios, but only time will tell.
