Sony is permanently reducing the price of the PlayStation VR2. The new pricing, which goes into effect in March, sets the cost of the headset at $400 in the US, €450 in Europe, and £400 in the UK. This is a significant reduction from the original prices of $550, €600, and £530, respectively. Notably, the Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle will also be subject to this price cut, mirroring the cost of the standard package at $400, €450, or £400, depending on the region. While the PS VR2 has been available for less than $400 during recent sales, this permanent price adjustment should grant retailers the flexibility to offer even deeper discounts in the future.

It’s challenging to predict the implications of this price reduction for the future of the PS VR2. The headset was arguably overpriced at launch, and even at $400, it remains more expensive than the Meta Quest 3S, a self-contained headset that does not require a PlayStation 5 or PC to function. Sony has recently introduced support for low-latency hand tracking, but overall, the company appears hesitant to invest more time and resources into the platform. Notably, major first-party studios have developed few games for the PS VR2, and those that have, including the creators of Call of the Mountain, have experienced layoffs in recent months.

Introduction to Price Reduction Sony is permanently reducing the price of the PlayStation VR2.
