DISA identified the breach on 22 April 2024, after conducting an internal investigation, which disclosed that an unauthorized party had infiltrated a limited portion of its network.<\/p>\n<p>A breach notification letter sent to affected individuals stated that the attacker had &#8220;procured some information,&#8221; but DISA admitted it could not determine the full extent of the data accessed, as reported by online technology news site TechCrunch.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Personal data exposed<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The breach compromised highly sensitive personal data, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Social Security numbers<\/li>\n<li>Credit card and financial account details<\/li>\n<li>Government-issued identification documents<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>DISA&#8217;s website states that it collects a wide range of personal and sensitive information, such as employment history, educational background, criminal records, and credit history.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Impact<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A separate filing with the Massachusetts Attorney General\u2019s office confirmed that over 360,000 Massachusetts residents were impacted, while 15,198 Maine residents had their data compromised.
