We were all taught that there are three primary types of matter: solid, liquid, and gas. However, this has now changed.<\/p>\n
After nearly 20 years of pursuit, we have successfully created a new state of matter, facilitated by a new class of materials known as topoconductors, which enable a significant leap in computing capabilities.<\/p>\n
This innovation powers Majorana 1, the first quantum processing unit built on a topological core.<\/p>\n
We believe this breakthrough will enable us to develop a genuinely meaningful quantum computer in years, rather than decades as previously predicted.<\/p>\n
The qubits created using topoconductors are faster, more reliable, and smaller, measuring 1\/100th of a millimeter. This breakthrough provides a clear path to developing a million-qubit processor.<\/p>\n
Imagine a chip small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, yet capable of solving problems that even all the computers on Earth combined cannot.<\/p>\n
Sometimes, researchers must work on projects for decades to achieve progress.<\/p>\n
It requires patience and persistence to have a significant impact on the world.<\/p>\n
And I am grateful that we have the opportunity to do just that at Microsoft.<\/p>\n
